Looking at examples of interactive newspapers

After getting feedback from my tutors and peers, I decided that I wanted to create an interactive newspaper. I wanted to design it as if it was a standalone tablet app, rather than an e-book PDF. I needed to have a look at some existing digital newspapers, to get an idea of what they can offer, aswell as how they are generally layed out.

Daily Telegraph newspaper app

The first thing I noticed looking at this demo was that the stories are quite condensed. The developers don't put too much text in the reader's face all at once, but rather give them the choice to click and reveal more. That is one major aspect I want to preserve in my e-newspaper - letting the user CHOOSE what they want to see.
Another great feature that I want to implement is the use of embedded videos. This will give my readers the interactive experience I'm looking for. I wan't the readers to be able to watch related videos without having to close the e-book, and finding it from an external browser. I want to keep the readers in my book constantly!
One other aspect I like about this app is the games feature. However, I am not too confident that it will be possible using InDesign - but I will still research the possibility.

Courier Mail newspaper app

I prefer the article layout in this app (0:22) when compared to the Daily Telegraph app. I like that there is only one embedded video/picture with text wrapped around it. It's clean and simple. If I place too many links (as some screen did in the Daily Telegraph app) the screen will just become cluttered and I may lose the users attention.

I really like the look of the pinch gesture integration. I personally like pinching an image to close it or zoom - it makes you feel like you're in full control of the file. However, again I am not too confident that this is possible using InDesign. I will need to experiment.
